When a movie is so heavily reliant on CGI wizardry – like, say, The Predator – it’s often the case that the final trailer far exceeds its predecessors in terms of action and quality.
And that’s very much the case with The Predator‘s latest (and potentially greatest?) sizzle reel, which is quintessential Shane Black… for better or worse.
If you’re not particularly fond of the director’s razor-sharp dialogue and boyish charm, then you’ll likely walk away from this new trailer disappointed. But you can’t deny The Predator‘s R-rated gore. Human bodies are torn in half, specially trained commandos are picked off for sport, and it seems the towering 10-foot Mega Predator has brought a pack of ghastly alien dogs along just for good measure.
All of this combines to create a movie that is very much cut from the same cloth as Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys, all the while honoring the Predator DNA that spans all the way back to John McTiernan’s cult classic from ’87.
Because this time around, those ninja-like hunters are no longer perched at the tip-top of the galaxy’s food chain; in their place stands a nightmarish being not of this world. Draped in midnight black armor, the Mega Predator is truly a force to be reckoned with, so it’s no wonder Quinn McKenna (Boyd Holbrook) and co. are left quaking in their boots once the shit begins hurling toward the fan.
They’re Earth’s last hope, though it seems the gang still have an ace in the hole in young Rory, whose autism allows him to decipher the ancient Yautja language.
The Predator steamrolls into theaters the world over on September 14th. So hold onto your butts.
