The last time we saw Finn Jones’ Ser Loras Tyrell in Game Of Thrones he was being burned alive by Cersei Lannister as a result of her destruction of the Great Sept, thus ridding the world of most of House Tyrell, The Sparrows and many members of the Royal Court. Just another day in Westeros, then.

With Ser Loras Tyrell not making it to the upcoming final season, Finn Jones is now free to speculate on the final state of the world after the show is wrapped up, and it’s worryingly optimistic. He was asked by People Magazine recently what he thought was going to happen and said:

“I basically don’t think there will be a throne anymore, and I don’t think there will be a centralized seat of power, and I think power will be given back to the individual kingdoms. So, more like a democratic rule.”

Then, possibly remembering his character’s grisly death and the generally bloodthirsty and sadistic tone of the show, he added:

“But I think that is probably too, like, utopian for Game of Thrones and I think eventually what will happen is just, everyone will die.”

While it would be nice to see Westeros categorically moving beyond the titular ‘Game of Thrones’ that’s caused so much misery and death, it’s difficult to imagine the land settling into a peaceful democracy with devolved powers. So, the far more likely option is the latter: everyone dies.

Of course, we’ll be seeing a lot more of Finn Jones very soon when Iron Fist season 2 premieres on September 7th. The first season was pilloried as perhaps the worst thing Marvel Studios has ever put out – a verdict I agree with (though I haven’t seen the notoriously bad Inhumans), so there’s apparently been a complete revamp of the show. Jones won a bit of credibility by turning in great performances in The Defenders and season 2 of Luke Cage, but still, the show’s got a big uphill battle ahead of it’s going to win back audiences.

As for Game of Thrones, you can look for the final season to debut in the first half of 2019.
