Marvel Chief Kevin Feige Vows To Deliver More Female-Led MCU Movies

Chatting to EW, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has reassured fans that there are many more female-led MCU movies in the pipeline.

While Ant-Man and the Wasp drew praise for its handling of Evangeline Lilly’s miniature hero, next year’s Captain Marvel solo movie heralds the first MCU installment to be headlined by a female character.

That character is, of course, Carol Danvers, former Air Force pilot who goes on to become a key member of the intergalactic Starforce after her DNA is fused with that of an alien during a near-death experience. Which brings us to Anna Boden, co-director of Captain Marvel and the first woman director to be hired by Marvel Studios.

Suffice it to say, the 90s-set actioner is about to make history, and at least according to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, there are many more female-led MCU movies coming down the pipeline. Here he is telling Entertainment Weekly about Marvel’s plans to bring more kick-ass ladies into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With [Ant-Man and The Wasp] and now with Captain Marvel and many movies to be announced in the near future, I’m anxious for the time where it’s not a novelty that there is a female-led superhero movie, but it is a norm. And it is less a story of, ‘Oh, look, a female hero,’ and it’s more a story of, ‘Oh, what’s this about? Who’s this character? I’m excited to see that.’ And I think we can get there.

Black Widow is one such MCU character who’s in line for her own standalone movie, while Valkyrie and Scarlet Witch have also been floated as potential candidates for Marvel to explore in Phase 4. Whether those embryonic ideas come to fruition is another question entirely, but surely it’s only a matter of time before Kevin Feige and his team dedicate the necessary resources for a full-blown ensemble movie featuring the MCU’s leading ladies, right?

Make it happen, Marvel!
