Supergirl Visits The Oval Office In New Image From Season 4

With Smallville alumnus Sam Witwer having boarded Supergirl as season 4's new big bad, Agent Liberty, it's become more apparent how the coming year will be chock full of political and social allegory. In fact, it's very much looking like the producers are aiming for the stars with this one because the Maiden of Might is doing more than just writing a letter to her local congressman - she's paying a visit to the White House!

Actually, this makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider how Bruce Boxleitner, most known for his role in Babylon 5, has been hired to play Vice President Baker. From the sound of it, we’ll be seeing a lot of this guy, so don’t be surprised if he ends up taking the top job by replacing Lynda Carter’s Olivia Marsdin in the Oval Office. And considering how her character is secretly an alien, well, then expect for some interesting tales to be told come October.

Speaking of which, Variety has managed to get their hands on a new image showing Kara Zor-El standing in the aforementioned Oval Office, and it can be seen below. Perhaps I’m not the only one, but it’s hard not recalling Zod and his cohorts being in that very room under much different circumstances in Superman II.

Like I said earlier, this go-round will be one to discuss around the water cooler, so here’s more about season 4’s topical nature by way of executive producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner:

“This season, we’re telling allegorical stories about real life issues that are incredibly topical and current. We want to explore how Supergirl can face the challenges that many of us are facing, so that she can inspire us to stand up against these types of injustices, too. Also, because Kara is a reporter, she’ll be reporting on many of the issues that our country is facing. We’ll be able to tackle issues of the press in this way and hopefully tell stories, which show how important a fair and free press is to democracy.”

Supergirl returns for its fourth season on Sunday, October 14 on The CW.
