Disney’s officially in the process of swallowing up Fox, but Kevin Feige has assured us that it’s still too early for him to properly consider folding the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU just yet, meaning we shouldn’t expect to see the likes of, say, Wolverine or Silver Surfer in Avengers 4. Apparently the folks behind Netflix’s Iron Fist didn’t get the memo on that one, though.
Season 2 of the Marvel drama recently arrived on the streaming service and if you’ve reached at least episode 6, titled “The Dragon Dies At Dawn,” you might have noticed a very sly nod to the First Family of the House of Ideas. Didn’t catch it? That’s fair enough, as it’s easy to overlook. However, it could have MAJOR repercussions for the future of the team in the MCU.
In short, Danny Rand and his uneasy ally Mary Walker try to stop his nemesis Davos in a vacant construction site. The battle goes badly, though, and the immortal Iron Fist needs an ambulance. When Mary calls for help, she gives the address of the building as “42 Baxter.” This has to be a nod to the Baxter Building, the home of the Fantastic Four.
If you’re thinking that “Baxter” on it own doesn’t necessarily mean anything, you’d be right. But the “42” is also significant. In the comics, the Baxter Building is located on 42nd St. and Madison Avenue. Clearly, there’s no way this was an accident and the writers knew what they were doing here.
What this could mean, then, is that the construction site will soon be turned into a skyscraper that’ll be home to Reed Richards, Sue and Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm. Fans had previously theorized that the abandoned Avengers Tower could be rebranded as the Baxter Building, but thanks to Iron Fist, it seems that we now know better.
