It’s going on 24 hours since yesterday’s big Avengers 4 leak, and still, the Internet at large is gobbling up any MCU content it can find.

The untimely media dump itself included shots of Captain America, Black Widow and a very Ronin-esque Hawkeye, all but confirming the latter’s transformation leading up to May 2019 – not unlike how Steve Rogers adopted the mentality of Nomad for Avengers: Infinity War.

That’s all well and good, but today, we bring you a close-up of what appears to be Captain Marvel‘s modern-day costume which, unsurprisingly, adheres to the classic red-and-gold ensemble made famous by Marvel Comics. You’ll also notice that Carol Danvers’ hairstyle is a little different to the one seen in Captain Marvel’s initial trailer, hinting that Brie Larson’s heroine has gotten with the times since she was last seen in the MCU.

Punching old ladies (read: Skrulls) takes a lot of work, you know! In all seriousness, it’s become clear that next year’s standalone Captain Marvel movie has been angled as the perfect launchpad for Brie Larson’s MCU character, as she begins her quest to defend Earth from a full-blown Skrull invasion.

Doing so will involve a confrontation with Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) leader of the Skrulls and a master of deception. Word is he’s able to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. and blindside Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who is still just a low-level desk jockey by the time Captain Marvel begins.

This radical shift certainly makes for a welcome tonic in the aftermath of Infinity War, all the while adding some depth to the would-be S.H.I.E.L.D. director.

Once Captain Marvel takes to the skies in March, all eyes in the industry will fall upon Avengers 4 as it prepares to close the book on this current installment of the MCU. Its ETA? May 3rd, 2019.
