Venom Producer Provides Status Update On Silver & Black

Matt Tolmach, producer of Venom, has told Screen Rant that the Silver & Black script is still being worked on at this moment in time.

Silver & Black is one of those Spider-Man spinoffs from Sony Pictures that’s yet to unveil any tangible intel, and yet, it’s still trucking along in development. Slowly, but surely…

Last we reported, the Powers That Be wanted to split the film into two standalone adventures featuring Black Cat and Silver Sable, respectively, though a new interview with Venom producer Matt Tolmach suggests otherwise.

Chatting to Screen Rant, Tolmach confirmed that, yes, Silver & Black is still gestating in development as Gina Prince-Bythewood is currently working on the script. And the female-fronted spinoff won’t progress any further until the story is locked in – lest they risk fast-tracking a half-baked Spidey movie.

Yes. Yes. Gina Prince-Bythewood’s right. The script’s gotta be right. It’s true with all of these movies.

And that’s it, really. No announcement about the current timeline. No casting updates. No news about whether Silver & Black will be split into two separate movies or continue to live life as a miniature crossover involving two of Spidey’s most formidable foes. Perhaps Sony is simply waiting until Venom has enjoyed its time in the limelight before it begins detailing what comes next?

Whatever the case, the Sony-backed Silver & Black movie(s) is still percolating in development, which ought to allay any fears that the spinoff had been outright cancelled amid news that Morbius, Kraven and Silk were all to receive standalone films of their own. Expect those villain-centric offshoots to begin to take shape in 2019 and beyond.

Closer to home, Venom is all set to make its grand debut next Friday, October 6th, and only then will we be able to gauge the tone, style and possible success of Sony’s Marvel Universe.
