Between The Lion King, Star Wars and his producing role on Avengers 4, Jon Favreau is someone who knows how to multitask. That much is clear.
The first marquee project is a live-action retelling of one of the most beloved Disney films there is, while the Infinity War sequel really needs no introduction. Sandwiched in between those two heavy-hitters, though, is the first ever live-action Star Wars TV show, which Favreau will write and direct for Lucasfilm.
From what we understand, it’ll be made up of 10 episodes, with a $100M production budget (!), and based on some new set pics, it appears as if the writer-director is on the verge of firing up production on the project. Coming to us by way of Making Star Wars, you can see one of the snaps in the gallery below, while the rest can be found over on MSW’s website.
As for what we’re looking at here, well, that’s hard to say at the moment. However, earlier reports have told us that the show will whisk us off to Mandalore three years after the Empire’s downfall. The planet will apparently be in a state of disarray when things kick off, which means Favreau’s live-action TV series will largely focus on “restoring Mandalore to its former self.”
That remains unconfirmed for now, but if true, it could open the door for some of the franchise’s most iconic characters, like Sabine, Bo-Katan and the legendary Darksaber. Could it be that they’ll swing by Jon Favreau’s show? Who knows, but you can color us intrigued.
Regardless, the writer/director’s a great candidate to whip Lucasfilm’s first live-action Star Wars series into shape. It’ll premiere exclusively on Disney’s upcoming streaming service and though further details have yet to be revealed, now that production is underway, we’ll surely be learning more soon.
