‘Anyone on shift?’: Delta passenger uses the gate microphone at LAX to demand help after no customer service agents showed up

Took matters into his own hands

A Delta Air Lines passenger apparently reached his breaking point at the Los Angeles International Airport after reportedly being unable to get help from any customer service agents at his departure gate. Rather than continuing to wait, he walked up to the gate’s public address microphone and began making announcements himself, according to a video posted on TikTok.

The clip, posted by the user Marilyn Delgado (@marilyndelgado), accumulated over 9 million combined views. In the footage, the man can be seen standing at the microphone in what appears to be a departure lounge, calling out to Delta staff who he said were not responding to him.

In the first video he posted, the passenger is heard addressing Delta staff directly over the microphone. “Hi, Delta associates that aren’t paying attention,” he said. “Please come to 30B. You have a customer waiting. Thank you.” He continued making repeated announcements, saying, “Delta, Delta, please come to 30B. You have a customer waiting,” before adding, “Delta, Delta, is anybody working?”

The passenger did the job Delta staff apparently weren’t doing

At one point, a Delta announcement reportedly played over the intercom at the same time he was speaking. He acknowledged it, saying, “OK, that’s fine if you want to do the baggage thing, but what about customer service? Customer service is needed at 30B. Please come and help the customer at 30B.” He then asked, “Uh, anyone on shift? Delta, Delta, please help. 30B. Thank you.”

In the second video, a captain approached the passenger, and told him to move somewhere else, he said. The man also said at that point, “Literally no one wants to respond. That’s fine. I’ll just keep broadcasting.”

Following what appeared to be a brief exchange, the passenger continued using the microphone, saying, “The captain just walked away from me and [is] saying I could go somewhere else. So, does anybody wanna help with customer service?”

The airline has also faced separate accusations of what some customers have described as “scamming” with its bereavement flight prices, according to BroBible. Not all viral airport moments have been negative, though, in a widely shared story, a stranger stepped in to help a distressed father and his toddler at an airport ticket counter when their travel plans suddenly fell apart.

In another viral TikTok clip that garnered over 40,000 views, a user identified as @thefloraldame described a seating dispute aboard a Delta flight. She claimed that a flight attendant told her a man sitting in the middle seat, her assigned window seat was next to him was paralyzed from the waist down, and that she would have to “climb over” him to reach her seat.

I love you @delta but you have to do better in these situations. #delta #flightattendant #flights #unacceptable

When @thefloraldame said she refused, the flight attendant reportedly turned to the man’s caregiver and asked, “How immobile is he?” The caregiver said the man could not move his legs, according to the TikToker’s account. She claimed the situation was ultimately resolved between herself and the caregiver, who agreed to switch seats without further involvement from Delta staff.

Delta Air Lines has not publicly responded to either of these incidents as of the time of reporting. Delta is far from the only airline facing viral scrutiny over how it handles passenger concerns, as a Ryanair passenger recently shared how she retrieved her carry-on after accidentally leaving it on the plane, despite initially being told the airline does not deal with bags left onboard.
