Yesterday brought the announcement that Emmett J. Scanlan (Guardians of the GalaxyConstantine) would be joining the cast of Syfy’s Superman prequel Krypton for its upcoming second season. Today, things got even better for fans of the Main Man, as our first look at Scanlan in full costume as Lobo was revealed.

As you can see in the gallery down below, the look’s pretty faithful to the fan favorite DC comics character. Scanlan appears to have bulked up for the part, and the chalky white skin, facial markings and dreadlocks are all in keeping with the Last Czarnian we all know and love.

See for yourself:

Alongside the character’s reveal, this description of Lobo teases what we can expect from him in the new season of Krypton. Again, it sounds like he’ll be portrayed very closely to his depiction in the source material. The only difference is that he’ll be facing Kal-El’s grandfather Seg-El instead of the Man of Steel himself.

“Emmett J. Scanlan plays the newest DC Comics character to join KRYPTON, Lobo. A ruthless bounty hunter, who murdered his entire species, he possesses a genius level intellect when it comes to matters of warfare, making him a deadly adversary. Imbued with superhuman strength, and virtually immortal, Lobo will keep coming until the job is finished. His word is the only thing Lobo holds sacred; and although he’ll never violate the letter of an agreement, he might disregard its spirit from time to time!”

Despite his popularity, this is the first time that Lobo has made it into live-action. Warner Bros. has been trying to develop a movie for the character for years, with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa both linked to the role over time. Recently, it was rumored that the project had been quietly shelved. Knowing that it can be tricky for DC TV shows to get access to characters the movie division’s interested in, it’s possible that his appearance on Krypton means those rumors were right.

Of course, Krypton‘s first season did a great job with Brainiac (Blake Ritson), so hopefully Lobo will be handled with just as much skill in its second season, which is due to arrive on Syfy sometime in 2019.
