Smallville’s Michael Rosenbaum Wants In On James Gunn’s Suicide Squad 2

Michael Rosenbaum is definitely among the sanest people to have emerged from the cast of Smallville - in that he didn't join a sadomasochistic religious sex cult and engage in human trafficking. So, he's got that going for him. What he doesn't seem to have is much of a big screen presence as judging by his IMDb page, he doesn't look to have anything of note coming up. That might be why he's angling for a part in James Gunn's Suicide Squad 2.

Michael Rosenbaum is definitely among the sanest people to have emerged from the cast of Smallville – in that he didn’t join a sadomasochistic religious sex cult and engage in human trafficking. So, he’s got that going for him. What he doesn’t seem to have is much of a big screen presence as judging by his IMDb page, he doesn’t look to have anything of note coming up. That might be why he’s angling for a part in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad 2.

A day after Dave Bautista indicated that he’s enthusiastic about making the jump from Marvel to DC alongside Gunn, Rosenbaum chipped on in Twitter by saying “Sign me up, too.” He’ll probably get his wish fulfilled as well, as Rosenbaum and Gunn are longtime friends, with the former making a cameo appearance as Martinex (one of Sylvester Stallone’s Ravagers) in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Of course, fans of Rosenbaum and Smallville immediately got behind the actor, saying they’d love to see Jesse Eisenberg get the boot and Rosenbaum get his wish to reprise the role of Lex Luthor. One fan even jokingly suggested that he pressure Gunn to put in a plotline where Luthor got beaten up so bad in prison that it altered his face and personality, thus enabling Rosenbaum to take the role.

Personally, I’d love to see Rosenbaum making a bit more of a comeback. His Luthor in Smallville was one of the best things about the show, and since then he’s put in some sterling voice work in Justice League: Unlimited and Justice League: Doom (as well as popping up in Rocksteady’s Arkham Knight). So, c’mon, Gunn, what are friends for if they’re not helping each other out?

Either way, with the former MCU mastermind now on board, Suicide Squad 2 could be just the shot in the arm the DCEU needs.
