Smallville’s Michael Rosenbaum Says He Wants His Lex Luthor Job Back

Smallville wasn't to every DC fan's tastes, but pretty much every Superman lover out there can agree that Michael Rosenbaum was superb as Lex Luthor. In fact, he's probably the best screen version of the Man of Steel's nemesis we've ever had, as Rosenbaum was able to get under the skin of the criminal mastermind and believably take him down the path towards darkness over the first seven seasons of the prequel show.

Smallville wasn’t to every DC fan’s tastes, but pretty much every Superman lover out there can agree that Michael Rosenbaum was superb as Lex Luthor. In fact, he’s probably the best screen version of the Man of Steel’s nemesis we’ve ever had, as Rosenbaum was able to get under the skin of the criminal mastermind and believably take him down the path towards darkness over the first seven seasons of the prequel show.

Naturally, fans have been wanting to see him play Luthor again ever since Smallville ended, most likely on Supergirl. Rosenbaum may have his sights set on reprising his villainous role on the big screen instead, though, as he recently made a joking (we think) comment on Twitter about replacing Jesse Eisenberg.

In response to those reports that Henry Cavill is out as Supes, Rosenbaum tweeted: “I wish Eisenberg was done at Warner Brothers. Give me my job back.” He followed up the message with a winking emoticon to let us know his tongue was firmly in his cheek when he wrote this.

Naturally, fans were all over this tweet. After all, it’s fair to say Eisenberg’s interpretation of the villain in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice didn’t please everyone, with many of the opinion that the actor’s neurotic, psychotic portrayal just didn’t fit the character of Lex Luthor. He did give a more classical performance for his brief cameo in Justice League, though who knows if he’ll ever get to play the part again, given the fog surrounding the future of the DC franchise.

As for Rosenbaum, like we said above, if he truly does want to make a comeback as Lex Luthor, then Supergirl probably is his best bet. However, the actor has previously suggested he wouldn’t want to go through the process of shaving his head again to play the part. He is, though, up for an animated reunion, alongside his old Smallville co-stars like Tom Welling and Kristen Kreuk. Both of whom are interested in the idea as well.
