Halloween Producer Says He’s Dying To Make A Sequel

It's official - 2018's Halloween is a monster hit. It's already raked in more than $100 million and fans have unanimously decreed it as the best entry in the franchise since John Carpenter's seminal 1978 original. You would think that Blumhouse are keen to make a follow-up to what's clearly the biggest horror movie of the year.

It’s official – 2018’s Halloween is a monster hit. It’s already raked in more than $100 million and fans have unanimously decreed it as the best entry in the franchise since John Carpenter’s seminal 1978 original. You would think that Blumhouse are keen to make a follow-up to what’s clearly the biggest horror movie of the year, then, and you’d be right.

While speaking to The Wrap, producer Jason Blum explained that, of course, the company would love to make a Halloween II (which would technically be the third Halloween II in existence), but he also maintained that things haven’t quite progressed to the stage where he can safely say another film’s happening.

“It’s hard to make a great movie, period, and I always say, make a great movie first and we’ll figure out a franchise after. Of course we would want to make a sequel, in fact, we’re dying to make a sequel . . . there are a lot of people that have to be in the same mindset as us. Nothing’s been set in stone, but we’re certainly going to try.”

Blum’s comments seem to disprove the recent report that said Blumhouse was already working on a Halloween sequel. Bloody Disgusting claimed a few weeks ago that the studio had hired an unnamed writer to begin work on a script. They also reported that director David Gordon Green and screenwriter Danny McBride were unlikely to return.

This would be a blow to Blumhouse, as the duo did such a great job with the latest installment in the franchise. Plus, it could potentially be a massive stumbling block in getting their leading lady back. Jamie Lee Curtis recently said that she’d only do another Halloween if Green returned as director. If that’s the case, you can bet that they’ll do anything to tempt him back if it means Curtis signs on again.

2018’s Halloween certainly leaves things open for a sequel, too. Though the climax appears to show Michael Myers meeting his final end, the post-credits stinger features a very familiar breathing, hinting that he managed to survive. If Blumhouse can get their act together pretty sharpish, we might even see him again next October.
