A new SEC filing from IMAX has formed the basis for a little discussion on the possibility of the Avengers: Infinity War sequel being moved to an earlier date. The report lists international screenings for the movie in April and domestic screenings in May, which should come as no surprise to anyone who’s been keeping track of the official calendar. Nonetheless, fans are still clinging to the possibility of an April release in North America too, not least because Marvel Studios did exactly that for Infinity War.

It feels like a long time ago now, but it came as quite a shock earlier this year when it was announced via Twitter that the domestic date had been shifted from May 4th to April 27th. And while it’s unclear whether Disney plan to pull the same stunt twice, it’s easy to see from a marketing perspective why the studio would want the domestic and international schedules to be in sync. Besides, given how many franchise-altering developments this upcoming sequel is likely to pack, you can imagine that a lot of fans will be staying off social media for the whole week between the April and May launches for fear of spoilers.

If a change in date is what Marvel indeed has planned, then it’ll probably be at least a couple of months until we find out. So for now, let’s just keep saying that you can watch Avengers 4 in theaters from May 3rd, 2019.
