Kevin Feige Says Captain Marvel Is A Very Different And Exciting Origin Story

Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel Studios are clearly building up Captain Marvel to be a very big deal for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the recent Avengers: Infinity War teasing the arrival of Carol Danvers in its post-credits scene. Not to mention that multiple sources are reporting her to be the most powerful hero of the MCU thus far.

The studio’s been kicking the Captain Marvel promotion up a notch in the past few months, too, giving us some revelatory new stills and, of course, that highly anticipated first trailer. And just in case all that wasn’t enough for you, Feige has now gone ahead and teased that we’re in for something very different and exciting.

Talking to Variety last night at the British Academy Britannia Awards, where the super producer was honored with the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment, here’s what he had to say:

“It takes place in the 1990s and while it is an origin story of our hero, it is a very different type of origin story which we’re excited to unveil to audiences. [Larson] does a tremendous job. Sam Jackson is a very different version of Nick Fury, does an amazing job, the entire cast — this one is very different and very exciting.”

Although this echoes what we’ve been hearing for a while now, it’s still nice to get more confirmation that we’re in for something pretty special with Captain Marvel. There’s a lot riding on it, after all, and as the MCU’s first female-led film, you can be sure that it’ll be placed under heavy scrutiny.

Still, we have no reason to believe that Kevin Feige and co. will disappoint. Marvel’s only been going from strength to strength over the past several years, cranking out one monster hit after another. And with any luck, Captain Marvel will follow in the same vein, introducing us to a hero who might just become the face of the franchise once folks like Iron Man and Cap bow out in Avengers 4.
