Will Doctor Who Season 11 Introduce Another Female Doctor?

At this point, it's safe to say that Doctor Who has begun a whole new era with season 11. New intro, new companions, new villains and, most important of all, a new Doctor. And not just a new one, but the first female version of the character that we've ever seen. Yes, Jodie Whittaker has become the first woman to play the titular Time Lord in the show's long history but if a new theory from Cinema Blend is on the level, we might just see another female Doctor turn up before the season's over.

To start with, they bring up that line which drove fans crazy from the premiere, when Whittaker stated that it’d been a long time since she’d bought women’s clothes. While this could just mean that she’s bought clothes for someone else in the past, many think it was a subtle hint that she’s been female before.

This past week’s episode, “Arachnids In The U.K.,” also had another clue about this, with the Doctor mentioning that she’d been a “sister” at one point. She was referring to being a nun and obviously, that’s a profession which requires you to be a woman. So, could Thirteen encounter a past female Doctor during this current run? It certainly seems possible.

As Cinema Blend goes on to explain, Doctors have met up in the past and though all the previous version of the character are male, the outlet reminds us that there’s precedent for the show to “retroactively create different incarnations of the Doctor outside of the numerical set. John Hurt’s War Doctor was created by then-boss Stephen Moffat for the 50th anniversary special, despite the fact that past lore had never made reference to him.”

So, with that in mind, Cinema Blend believes that new showrunner Chris Chibnall could do the same and bring in an actress to play whichever female Doctor came before Jodie’s version. Not only that, but as the outlet also points out, it’s clear that Chibnall isn’t one to keep the status quo, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him throw us another twist like this.

Of course, it’s important to remember that this is all just speculation and will remain as such until we see another female Doctor in the flesh, but if we can be certain of one thing, it’s that Doctor Who season 11 surely has a lot more surprises in store for us and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead.
