This step into the present time is the focus of a new synopsis for Andy Muschietti’s upcoming film, which may not offer any surprises to those who know the Stephen King story, but might still serve as a welcome reminder of what’s in store for the Losers’ Club’s next outing:

Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “IT CHAPTER TWO” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.

As well as reuniting our heroes once more, the sequel to last year’s horror hit will also see the return of their old foe Pennywise, who’s set to terrorize the town of Derry after a long holiday. But while anyone who enjoyed the first It can expect Bill Skarsgard to deliver the scares once more, actor Bill Hader also recently suggested that this next film may tug at the heartstrings a little, too:

“It’s really great. It’s very emotional. The cast is amazing… It’s really scary obviously, but I was surprised at how emotional it was. It’s really a story about these people and this kind of trauma that they all went through.”

Seeing how the first movie was as much a coming-of-age flick about the real-world horrors of growing up as it was a supernatural spooker about a shape-shifting clown, it figures that this next entry will keep one foot grounded in some human-level drama.

Hader’s statement echoes writer Gary Dauberman, who made the similar claim a couple of months ago that the movie’s ending “will satisfy the audience and maybe break their hearts a little bit.” But if you’re worried that this next film could be watering down the twisted spirit of the source material, the scribe has also assured us that he’ll be bringing some of the more bizarre content from King’s novel to the screen.

We’ll see if It: Chapter Two is as scary or as heartbreaking as the team behind it claims when the feature hits theaters on September 6th, 2019.
