The Atom on Legends of Tomorrow

Legends Of Tomorrow’s Brandon Routh Wants To Team Up With Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman

Though I'm much more easily able to accept Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer AKA the Atom on Legends of Tomorrow after seeing him in a ton of episodes, I admit that it was somewhat hard to get used to the idea of him playing the character when he first showed up during Arrow's third season. Don't forget, Routh suited up as the Man of Steel himself in 2006's Superman Returns.

Of course, the guy is a professional actor, so he’s been able to craft two distinctly different performances. Still, Brandon will forever remain part of a very exclusive club consisting of several gentlemen who’ve had the honor of playing an enduring icon.

Knowing this, Routh expressed interest in teaming up with one of his successors, Tyler Hoechlin, should the chance ever present itself in an Arrowverse crossover:

“That would be a blast. I’ve never, except for doing a little comedy bit, ‘League of Supermen,’ that I did with the Daly family, shared the screen with a Superman. But that would be fun.”

Actually, this wouldn’t be the first time that various Supermen (Supermans?) occupied the same space in front of the camera, as both Christopher Reeve and Dean Cain did guest shots opposite Tom Welling on Smallville. Needless to say, those instances provided for some memorable episodes, so one can only hope for something similar to happen in the not too distant future.

Unfortunately, we may have to wait at least another year for that to occur because Legends will be sitting out the “Elseworlds” crossover event, though someone from the show is expected to make a cameo of some sort. Whether or not that’ll be Routh – and in a scene shared with Hoechlin – remains to be seen, but fingers remain crossed.

Legends of Tomorrow airs on Monday nights on The CW.
