Flash Barry season 5

The Flash Name-Dropped A Major Batman Villain Last Night

If you tuned in for last night's episode of The Flash, "The Icicle Cometh," then you were witness to what I believe to be one of season 5's best offerings thus far. I mean, not only was it an enjoyable viewing experience, but we also learned the true origin of Killer Frost at long last.

If you tuned in for last night’s episode of The Flash, “The Icicle Cometh,” then you were witness to what I believe to be one of season 5’s best offerings thus far. I mean, not only was it an enjoyable viewing experience, but we also learned the true origin of Killer Frost at long last.

If you were along for the ride, then you remember when Caitlin Snow’s father, Thomas, mentioned a few scientists he’d corresponded with during his time experimenting with radical cryogenic technology. One was Harrison Wells, whom we could assume was actually Eobard Thawne, with the other two being classic DC Comics villains.

In addition to Louise Lincoln, another woman to take on the Killer Frost moniker in the source material, none other than Victor Fries was name-dropped. In a sense, the Arrowverse has finally rounded out the cold quartet consisting of Captain Cold, Killer Frost, the Icicle and Mr. Freeze.

Awesome as the reference was, it may be some time before we see Victor himself on The CW. Don’t forget, Fox’s Gotham still has one season remaining, with Nathan Darrow still actively playing the character over there. Sure, both Gotham and Arrow have been host to their own interpretations of Ra’s al Ghul, Firefly, the Dollmaker and, to an extent, Harley Quinn, but they’ve never overlapped.

Regardless, all eyes should be affixed on the “Elseworlds” crossover arriving in just under three weeks because, if you’ll recall, Cassandra Jean Amell has been cast as Nora Fries. This is no guarantee of Victor himself showing up, but the seed will most definitely be planted.

If and when a full-on Mr. Freeze does arrive in the Arrowverse, one would imagine that’d come on the Batwoman series likely to debut next fall. After that, he could certainly appear elsewhere and possibly even team up with the likes of the Icicle, thus making for one cool alliance.

The Flash airs on Tuesday nights on The CW.
