Epic Fan Trailer Teases The Captain Picard Star Trek Series

Fans are getting pretty excited for the return of Sir Patrick Stewart to the Star Trek universe, as the actor's preparing to make his grand comeback as Jean-Luc Picard for the first time since 2002. As was revealed in a rather surprising announcement earlier this summer, the Next Generation character will be getting his own series on CBS All Access at some point in 2019 and pre-production is already underway.

We know this thanks to a photo Stewart himself shared on social media the other month which showed him working with the writers room to get the ball rolling. Unfortunately, though, that’s all we’ve seen, as shooting has yet to begin and as such, official stills and of course, actual footage, are still a long way off.

Thankfully, then, we’ve got this new fan-made trailer which you can check out up above. It’s a well done piece of work that teases what the Picard series might look like when it arrives next year, outlining a plot which seemingly sees the Captain called back into action for one final mission. Granted, there’s no telling if the show itself will be anything like this once it eventually materializes, but if nothing else, this trailer will surely get folks even more excited.

At this early stage in the pre-production process, plot details on the Picard series have been hard to come by, but back at Star Trek Las Vegas, Stewart teased that all bets are off when it comes to where the character will be in his life on the show. “He may not be a captain anymore,” the actor said. “He may not be the Jean-Luc that you recognize and know so well. It may be a very different individual.”

That’s certainly intriguing, but given that CBS has been playing this one pretty close to the vest – no title, no release window… nada – we wouldn’t expect any firm details about Patrick Stewart’s Star Trek return until early 2019. As always, though, stay tuned for more.
