Right now, all the Marvel-related chatter is focused firmly on Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, and that’s perfectly understandable, as they’re the next two films to release from the House of Ideas and also both have trailers coming our way this week. But let’s not forget that Marvel has a third movie arriving in 2019 as well.
Yes, Spider-Man: Far From Home will swing into theaters on July 5th and with shooting now complete, it shouldn’t be too much longer before we get our first official look at it. In fact, some folks are even saying a trailer could be here by the end of the month, if not in early 2019.
That remains unconfirmed for now, but some plot details have leaked onto Reddit this week and they reveal a couple of interesting things about the film. Of course, given the source of the intel, we advise taking it with a grain of salt, but it certainly doesn’t sound too far-fetched.
Here’s what the leaker had to say:
Villains/creatures who harness powers with the elements of earth, wind, fire and water (might have one wrong) will be dispersed throughout Europe. Mysterio fights off and saves the day from these elemental creatures to look like a hero to the public.
The other tidbits were Ned and Michelle have bigger roles than the last film. So really not that surprising of reveals outside of the Mysterio tidbit.
Forgot about one bigger reveal. Happy Hogan and Aunt May become a thing! Which adds a lot of comedy bits with Peter feeling super uncomfortable about it.
Again, none of this has been confirmed yet, but having Mysterio trying to convince the world he’s a hero would certainly be an interesting angle for the film to take and wouldn’t be something too out of character for him. Though I guess we’ll just have to wait until that first trailer lands to see if this is the route they’re headed in.
For those unfamiliar with Mysterio, he’s a gifted, and very under-appreciated special effects guru and in the comics, dreams up all sorts of illusions and tricks to fight Spidey. But it won’t only be Jake Gyllenhaal’s antagonist that Peter Parker has to contend with next year, as Molten Man, Hydro-Man and the Chameleon have all been rumored for the film as well.
Throw in some appearances from Nick Fury and Maria Hill and it seems like Mr. Parker may have more complications to deal with than ever on his trip through Europe in Spider-Man: Far From Home, though he’ll clearly still make time in his schedule to hang out with friends and, of course, strike up a romance with MJ.
