Avengers 4 Theory Says Deadpool May Be Key To Defeating Thanos

Even when a theory doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell of being true, it can still make for an amusing enough piece of fan fiction. Such is this the case with this new post from Reddit user Manti12, who suggests that Avengers 4 could be introducing Disney’s new Fox properties into the MCU with a Deadpool crossover.

According to this line of speculation, Ant-Man’s journey into the Quantum Realm will allow him access to alternate realities, including the Merc with a Mouth’s own X-Men universe. Once Scott Lang ventures into this world, he somehow gains possession of the time machine used by Cable and Wade Wilson in Deadpool 2 and takes it back to his own world. It’s here that the popular predictions of time travel come into play, as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes journey into the past in a bid to defeat Thanos and reverse the snap.

In case it needed to be said, the odds of this theory being true are slim-to-zero. With the Disney/Fox deal not expected to be final until early 2019, there’s no way that the team behind the Avengers: Infinity War sequel would write a Deadpool crossover so prominently into the plot, especially when filming looks to have wrapped already. Besides, assuming that Avengers 4 is tonally consistent with its gloomy predecessor, an appearance from the cheekiest, most self-aware superhero lead in cinema today would probably be a major mood-killer.

All the same, it’s a fun idea, and once this Disney/Fox merger does come through, there are worse ways for Marvel Studios to make use of their newly acquired properties than pairing Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool up with Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. For the time being, however, Avengers 4 will have more than enough characters to juggle without bringing a whole other franchise into the story when the film hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
