For a very long time, what was Avengers 4 and is now officially Avengers: Endgame was set to be released on May 3rd, 2019, with the European release being a week earlier on April 26th. While that’s great for me being in London, I can only imagine how frustrating that would be for US viewers, who would essentially have to swear off the internet for a week in order to avoid this side of the Atlantic happily spoiling the film for all and sundry. That’s why Marvel’s now taken the sensible decision to give the movie an official global release date of April 26th, 2019.
This isn’t entirely unexpected, either. If you’ll cast your minds back to the run-up to Avengers: Infinity War, the exact same situation arose, with the studio making the same decision then as they have now. Based on that, I was expecting them to announce at some point that either the European release would be delayed or the US one brought forward, so it’s good to finally get confirmation.
Regardless of the reasons, this is great news for fans who can’t wait to see Endgame. There are now just twenty weeks to go before you’ll be excitedly parking yourself in a cinema seat, popcorn in hand, waiting to learn how our heroes are going to find some kind of victory in the face of Thanos’ devastating actions at the end of Infinity War. And, in the meantime, we’ve got the excitement of Captain Marvel to whet our appetite (not to mention a trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, too).
2019 is going to be a game-changing year for the MCU and Marvel Studios, with Endgame marking the beginning of a new era for the project. By the time the year is up, the Disney/Fox merger should be finalized and – if we’re lucky – we’ll have our first indications of how the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters are going to be integrated into the ongoing universe.
But circling back to Avengers: Endgame, and once again, it’ll now hit cinemas worldwide on April 26th, 2019.
