Cinematic universes are ambitious and risky endeavors from a box office perspective, and while a franchise with momentum can lead to commercial juggernauts like Avengers: Infinity War, DC’s Justice League serves as perhaps the prime example of what happens when audiences didn’t like the preceding movies enough to care about the eventual team-up. In the wake of that film’s underwhelming performance, Warner Bros. has clearly been rethinking their plans, and it looks like Superman’s famed love interest Lois Lane could be among the characters whose story ends here.
Amy Adams sat down with Aquaman star Nicole Kidman as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors, where she welcomed the new Atlanna to the DC Universe before offering an update on her own place in the saga:
“I think I’m out of the DC Universe now… I think they’re revamping that. I don’t know the details.”
Though Adams doesn’t sound particularly confident in her claims, the reported exit of Henry Cavill from the series would seriously reduce Lois’ significance in the wider franchise, so perhaps it only follows that Adams would be out the game, too.

Meanwhile, Adams’ mention of a revamp is hardly the first time we’ve heard of the idea, and it won’t be the last, either. As promising as things are looking for Jason Momoa’s upcoming Aquaman movie, not to mention the eventual Wonder Woman 1984, things aren’t going so well these days for the rest of the Justice League. As the planned Flash movie soldiers through multiple delays and multiple directors, Cyborg sits in limbo, while Ben Affleck’s run as Batman looks like it too could be at its end.
As for Superman, though the rumor mill will throw the fans a bone every now and then, it’s currently looking more than probable that Cavill is indeed stepping down, and for better or worse, that doesn’t paint the brightest of futures for Lois Lane, either.
