Avengers 4 Trailer

Fans Think They Spotted A Dead MCU Character In The Avengers: Endgame Trailer

Avengers: Infinity War left the fans in mourning, but with next year’s Avengers: Endgame, it’s pretty clear that many of the deaths we witnessed in 2018’s biggest release are going to be undone. That being said, some fans were apparently hoping to see the MCU’s dusted heroes make a return as soon as the upcoming film’s first trailer, and when viewed with this bias, it seems that even inanimate objects can look like characters.

To be fair, Groot of Guardians of the Galaxy fame has a habit of changing his appearance between movies, so if you had to project one hero’s identity onto random pieces of scenery, he would probably be the easiest to do so with. And in this recently shared screenshot from the Endgame teaser, one part of the set design featured on the top left of the image does indeed hold a vague resemblance to Rocket’s late friend, assuming you’re viewing the image in a low enough definition and Groot is exactly the character you want to see.

Nonetheless, as better quality versions of this same screenshot make clear (see the gallery below), Vin Diesel’s tree-like alter ego is probably not hanging out with Iron Man in his gloomy little spaceship.

Still, given how many Infinity War characters need to come back for sequels, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see Groot again at some point over the course of Endgame. What’s more, as slow as progress is right now for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it still seems more likely than not that the film will be making it to cinemas sooner or later (perhaps even much later). This would presumably mean the return of Groot, who might’ve even had time to grow back to full size by then.

In the meantime, we’ll find out if Tony Stark is sharing his lonely drift through space with any familiar figures when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
