Well, it seems we’ll find out when The Flash returns for the second half of its fifth season. Speaking to TV Line, showrunner Todd Helbing revealed that we can expect a “flash-forward flashback episode” – I guess that’s what you call it when flashbacks take place in the future – that’ll explore “how all that came to be, which will be a lot of fun.”

“You’ll slowly start to get the pieces of info that you need, but there will probably be one episode where we explain how that all happened to get her to come back [in time],” he said.

The 100th episode, titled “What’s Past Is Prologue,” saw Nora accompany her super-dad back through his personal timeline as they retrieved relics from his past that could build something to stop Cicada. During the journey, she discovered that Eobard Thawne had killed her namesake, her grandmother Nora. When she confronts him in the final scene, she’s furious that he never told her before, so clearly the pair have been in cahoots for a while.

It’s difficult to say why Nora’s partnering up with Reverse-Flash at the moment. Presumably though, it’s something to do with changing her father’s fate, as Barry’s destined to vanish in 2024. Perhaps she’s working with Thawne to try and find a way of avoiding the “crisis” that causes his disappearance? If that’s the case, they likely won’t be successful, as “Crisis on Infinite Earths” is next year’s big Arrowverse crossover.

In any case, The Flash is set to return to The CW on January 15th, at which point, we should get some answers.
