Star Wars: The Clone Wars Revival Confirmed To Arrive This Year

Though it was already expected to arrive in 2019, it's now been confirmed that the revival of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be with us this year.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars being brought back for a seventh and final season really goes to show just how healthy the animated Star Wars series are. After all, Rebels finished with a very well-received final season, Resistance is in the midst of an impressive rookie outing and, in perhaps the best indicator of their success, Solo: A Star Wars Story including that Darth Maul cameo was the final proof that these shows are very important to the overall continuity.

Even so, it was still a nice surprise to learn back in the summer that The Clone Wars would be resurrected four years after it was unceremoniously cancelled by the Cartoon Network. Though some plot strands were picked up by Rebels, many still believed that this was a story in need of an ending, and we definitely agree with that.

Details on what exactly’s coming our way still remain thin on the ground, but we can at least confirm today that the show will be back on our screens this year. Of course, that was widely expected to be the case, but Entertainment Weekly’s now offered up confirmation, which means it’s time to start getting excited about the return of all our favorite characters.

Speaking about The Clone Wars revival a few months ago, along with the show’s long, meandering journey back to television, Dave Filoni had the following to say:

Personally, it’s very rewarding. Any opportunity to put the final pieces of the story in place is meaningful as a storyteller. I’m happy for the opportunity to define these things and the end of this part of the Clone War. It also makes me reflect on all the people that I got to work with over the years. It reinforces the things I learned from George. It reminds me of the important elements that go into making Star Wars. So, it’s nice on several levels, and I think for the crew that’s still here that worked on Clone Wars, they feel that, as well.

Given that we now have it confirmed that Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be here this year, it shouldn’t be long before we start learning more about the revival. It’s arriving with quite a bit of hype, too, as it was one of the first Star Wars shows announced for Disney’s Netflix-bothering streaming service and while it’s not quite as big a deal as The Mandalorian, it’ll still no doubt be one of the centerpieces of their launch line-up.
