Fans will remember that the last time we saw the Girl of Steel, she’d split with her longtime allies the DEO because of hard-nosed new director Colonel Haley, who was desperate to find out Supergirl’s secret identity. In episode 10, “Suspicious Minds,” Haley isn’t taking no for an answer and isn’t going to stop until she uncovers the truth that Supergirl is really – whisper it – CatCo reporter Kara Danvers.

Meanwhile, it looks like Brainy’s finally going to get Nia Nal to embrace her destiny as a superhero. It’s been confirmed by producers – and hinted at on-screen – that Nia’s the ancestor of Nura Nal, the Legion of Super-Heroes member from the comics, so we knew this was coming. Plus, we were promised the first ever transgender superhero on TV screens when the character was introduced.

For more, be sure to check out the synopsis for the midseason premiere below:

Colonel Haley (April Parker Jones) is upset after Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) responds to a distress call from a Navy ship that turned out to be a deadly alien attack. Colonel Haley reclaims the site as DEO territory and demands that Supergirl step aside. After Supergirl refuses to be told what to do, Haley refocuses her energy on finding out Supergirl’s true identity and begins to interrogate all DEO agents, including Alex (Chyler Leigh). Meanwhile, Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath) tries to persuade Nia (Nicole Maines) to embrace her superpowers but she misinterprets his motives.

It sounds like it’s going to be a tough time for the Danvers sisters, as both Kara and Alex have to fight to keep the former’s identity away from Haley. That final clip also suggests that they fail and Haley finds out the truth, or are things not what they seem? It’s hard to say, but we’ll see for ourselves when Supergirl returns this Sunday, January 20th.
