Star Wars May Have Created A Big Marvel Cinematic Universe Paradox

From Pulp Fiction to Jurassic Park, the ever-prolific Samuel L. Jackson has been in a ridiculous number of major films, a lot of which remain frequent pop culture reference points many years later. It therefore seems inevitable that the fictional worlds inhabited by the actor would inadvertently collide sooner or later, such is the case with the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home.

This year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will see Nick Fury finally cross paths with Peter Parker and his friend Ned, both of whom, as Homecoming makes clear, are fans of the Star Wars films. And seeing how Jackson features in three of those movies in the role of Mace Windu, the question has been raised on Reddit of what exactly Spidey will think when he meets the spitting image of the Prequel Trilogy Jedi in the new film.

Of course, this is hardly the most significant lapse in logic, and we can probably assume that Reddit user Sicaedus pointed out this alleged inconsistency as little more than a joke. Nonetheless, the post has still spawned a little debate in the comments section. Some users, for example, have argued that while the Star Wars films evidently exist in the MCU, there’s no evidence to suggest that any of the movies feature Mace Windu in their reality, or that Samuel L. Jackson is the person playing him.

Draw whatever conclusion you will from this potential paradox, but as the MCU adds more and more stars to its already expansive cast list, it feels like the franchise will eventually come to a point where they can hardly name-drop another famous film without creating a similar inconsistency, so perhaps it’s best if we don’t fret too much about such nitpicks.

Regardless, you can see how Peter fares in his first encounter with Nick Fury when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5th, 2019.
