Avengers: Infinity War Star Anthony Mackie Confirms That Falcon Is Dead

Though it’s widely expected that the upcoming Avengers: Endgame will see the return of many a fallen hero who was snapped out of existence at the climax of Avengers: Infinity War, there are also a few fans who continue to question whether all these characters truly died in the first place, with some suggesting that the disintegrated victims were instead sent to a new location like the Soul World or an alternate dimension. According to Anthony Mackie, however, Falcon has well and truly passed away, at least for the time being.

According to Anthony Mackie, however, Falcon has well and truly passed away, at least for the time being.

The actor recently guested on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he was asked the inevitable question of whether or not Sam Wilson is really gone. In Mackie’s response, he claimed that his fate in Infinity War left him looking for new work, suggesting that he won’t be in Endgame.

“Well, obviously, if you didn’t see part three [Avengers: Infinity War], spoiler alert, I died,” Mackie said. “A lot of people died. So I’m gainfully unemployed. And that’s why I’m doing other movies now.”

Of course, there’s only so much that Marvel Studios will allow Mackie to give away, and despite what the actor says here, it still feels like a safe bet that we’ll be seeing Falcon again in the Infinity War sequel. Either way, the character will reportedly return to our screens for his own Disney Plus TV show opposite Bucky Barnes, suggesting that Mackie doesn’t have quite as much free time on his schedule as he’s letting on.

In any case, we probably shouldn’t expect Falcon to get a whole load of screen time in Endgame if he does indeed return, with the focus likely to be on the various survivors of Avengers: Infinity War. In particular, it’s looking like this next film will be wrapping up the arcs of a few Phase 1 heroes, some of whom may be getting sendoffs that prove a lot more permanent than Sam’s. Regardless, we’ll find out who still has a future in the franchise when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
