Birds Of Prey will feature Margot Robbie’s second turn as the Clown Princess of Crime, Harley Quinn, after making her DC universe debut in 2016’s Suicide Squad. One of the common criticisms of that movie was the depiction of Harley’s relationship with the Joker, which was painted more like a kooky love story than the abusive, unhealthy romance it usually is. Harley fans should be pleased to know, then, that all the evidence suggests that the former Dr. Quinzel is going at it alone in the upcoming superheroine team-up film.
A new set photo, seen below, offers a full look at Robbie in character as Harley and, if you zoom in, you can see that one of the tattoos on her leg has been altered since we last saw her. Now “Harley + Puddin” has the latter’s name crossed through, providing a pretty big clue that she’s not in love with the Joker anymore.

A previous image of Harley from Birds of Prey, as shared by Robbie herself on social media, also hinted at the break-up that surely shook Gotham’s underworld. In it, Harley can be seen to be wearing a dog-tag necklace labelled “Bruce.” It’s possible this is a meta nod to Harley Quinn creator Bruce Timm, but most are taking it as a jab at the Joker’s expense (Harley’s wearing the name of his nemesis just to spite him). Though exactly how Harley knows that Bruce Wayne’s Batman is another story.
Speaking of Bats, don’t expect him to show up in Birds Of Prey. From what we’ve heard, the movie will be set following the Dark Knight’s disappearance, leaving his hometown in even worse shape than before. Harley and her new pals Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) take it upon themselves, then, to battle Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask.
Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) – yup, that’s the full title – hits cinemas in just over a year, on February 7th, 2020.
