Mortal Kombat Creator Ed Boon Approves Of John Cena As Stryker

Ed Boon of NetherRealm Studios has given a hearty thumbs-up to some Mortal Kombat 11 concept art depicting John Cena in the role of Stryker.

There’s no video game series quite as ridiculous as Mortal Kombat.

It is, after all, the time-honored franchise in which souped-up brawlers kick seven bells out of one another, resulting in gross and wonderfully over-the-top fatalities, each more brutal than the last. We’re pleased to report that, following last month’s big reveal, Mortal Kombat 11 is no different, as it empowers players with the ability to slaughter their opponents by any means necessary – regardless of whether that involves slicing your enemy into two a la Scorpion, or punching their face so hard that the skin is literally sent careering into orbit. Yeah, MK11 doesn’t fuck around.

Pulling the strings once again is series mainstay Ed Boon, who’s been pretty vocal about all things Mortal Kombat ever since 11 was introduced to the world. Case in point: over on Twitter, Boon approved of some MK-themed concept art that imagines John Cena, star of Blockers and Bumblebee, in the role of Stryker.

Feast thy eyes:

It didn’t take long for Boon to respond, after he admitted that Cena would be perfect in the role of Stryker, a stalwart of the Mortal Kombat series since as far back as ’95. Now, more than two decades later, he’s still kicking ass and taking names, and frankly, we can think of no one better equipped for the role of the heavy-duty SWAT officer than John Cena.

We’ve been blessed (cursed?) with a live-action Mortal Kombat movie before, but who’s to say it won’t happen again? Via Twitter:

Mortal Kombat 11 is currently in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch (!) and will see a release on April 26th – day and date with a little-known Marvel movie called Avengers: Endgame.
