Matt Reeves’ The Batman Could Be Almost 3 Hours Long

By the time Matt Reeves’ The Batman arrives in theaters, we’ll have waited almost four years since we last saw Bruce Wayne on our screens with 2017’s Justice League, but if a newsletter from The Hollywood Reporter is anything to go by, then the Caped Crusader could be making up for his extended period of absence with a pretty hefty runtime.

Though the upcoming DC flick seems to be a good few months away from production, it’s known that Matt Reeves already has a script written, albeit one that’s still undergoing adjustments. And according to THR, it’s rumored that the screenplay currently amounts to a bulky 160 pages. Going by the old, if somewhat unreliable, rule of thumb that one page amounts to roughly one minute of screen time, this suggests that the script could translate to a runtime of around 2 hours and 40 minutes.

That being said, the report also adds that Reeves is currently in the process of trimming down his script, suggesting the film may still slip below the two-and-a-half-hour mark. Nonetheless, given the DCEU’s track record, it would come as no surprise to hear that the theatrical release of The Batman at least keeps its length above 140 minutes. After all, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Man of Steel all had runtimes slightly over 2 hours and 20 minutes, and the theatrical cut of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice went even longer at 151 minutes.

In any case, the runtime is hardly the biggest question that fans have around The Batman, which currently has no confirmed cast members or even an official title. Hopefully we’ll learn a fair amount more in the coming months, but either way, we’ve still got a long wait until the film hits theaters on June 25th, 2021.
