Star Trek: Discovery season 2 reaches its fifth episode this week and these new promo images reveal that a couple of familiar faces will be returning to the U.S.S. Discovery. One’s to be expected, but the other raises a lot of questions considering that the last time we saw the character, they died.

Six new photos from episode 5, titled “Saints of Imperfection,” reveal that Michelle Yeoh will feature as Phillipa Georgiou, who recently showed up in episode 3. That installment revealed that the Mirror Universe doppelganger is now working with Section 31, so it’s not a surprise to see her teaming up with Captain Pike and his crew again. It’s more shocking, though, to see Wilson Cruz back as Dr. Hugh Culber, given that he died in season 1.

We knew that Cruz was still contracted as a regular, of course, with the actor appearing in a few cameo roles already this season – in some visions and a recorded message. However, this is the first time that Culber will somehow return in the flesh. It should throw poor Stamets (Anthony Rapp) for a loop to find his ex-boyfriend alive again, but Rapp has teased that the way Culber will return will be “meaningful” and also have “consequences.”

The promo for the episode, meanwhile, teased that it’ll follow on directly from last week’s outing, with Tilly (Mary Wiseman) having been taken over again by the parasite from the Mirror Universe that’s appearing in the form of her friend May (Bahia Watson). No doubt this is why Georgiou, another inhabitant of the same dimension, is brought back on board to help.

Elsewhere, we’re still waiting for Ethan Peck to make his on-screen debut as Spock, even though he did have a voiceover role in the season premiere. We’ll have to keep watching to see the family reunion between the iconic Vulcan and his human step-sister Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), but hopefully it happens soon.

Be sure to catch Star Trek: Discovery “Saints of Imperfection” this Thursday, February 14th on CBS All Access.
