Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon fills in the gap between Rose’s exit from the show as a regular back in the season 2 finale and her surprise return in season 4. As fans well know, Rose was thought to be trapped in a parallel world before she found a way to (temporarily) reunite with the Doctor in time to help defeat Davros and the Daleks’ plan to destroy the multiverse. Now, this series will explore Rose’s adventures as she uses the titular dimension canon to hop between universes.

The unique twist of the boxset is that it won’t feature any aliens or villains but instead focus on “the beautifully rich human characters of Doctor Who.” This fits with the series’ aims to recapture the Russell T. Davies era of the TV show, which is known for the writer’s well-rounded characters and emphasis on the everyday.

The four stories in what we hope’s the first boxset of many are as follows:  The Endless Night by Jonathan Morris, The Flood by Lisa McMullin, Ghost Machines by A.K. Benedict and The Last Party on Earth by Matt Fitton. The cast will also include a couple of returning faces that bring Rose’s story full circle, such as Mark Benton and Elli Garnett, who starred in 2005’s “Rose,” the first episode of 21st century Doctor Who, as Doctor fan Clive and his wife.

In a fun crossover of the mediums, Dimension Cannon will also bring to life a group of characters previously only featured in the Rose novelization by Davies published last year. Patrice Okereke (Syrus Lowe), Mook Jayasundera (Waleed Akhtar), Odessa Smith (Elizabeth Ute) and Roni Bandara (Amerjit Deu) are all set to play the Bad Wolf gang, the bandmates of Rose’s old boyfriend Mickey Smith.

Billie Piper returns to Doctor Who when Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon releases in September 2019. It’s available for pre-order now for £25 on CD and £20 for download. Will you be picking it up? Be sure to let us know by dropping a comment down below.
