Tom Hiddleston Confirmed To Appear In The Loki TV Series

Last month, a rumor started circulating that the upcoming Loki TV show will only feature Tom Hiddleston as a narrator, while the lead role will be handled by a new actor playing the trickster in his younger days. Going by recent comments from Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn, however, it seems that the Thor series regular will play a bigger part in the Disney Plus show than the hearsay would suggest.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Horn was asked how many movies will be made every year by Disney’s various labels for their upcoming streaming service. In his response, the industry executive mentioned that Hiddleston will indeed be the star of the Loki series:

“The quality of the idea and the piece itself will drive whether we can make it or not. [Disney president of production Sean Bailey] may have three or four a year that he can contribute, and Marvel has a few things — we’re doing [a series] with Tom Hiddleston playing the Loki character.”

Granted, Horn hasn’t exactly spelled out that the show won’t feature a younger version of Loki, but it certainly sounds like the series will give Hiddleston more than just a voice role.

In any case, we’re still left with the question of just when in the MCU timeline the Loki show will take place. Though the character’s demise in Avengers: Infinity War has been the subject of plenty of speculation from fans suspecting that the trickster has once more faked his death, Thanos’ line, “No resurrections this time,” came across as an assurance from the film’s writers that they weren’t going to pull the same twist we saw in Thor: The Dark World.

Then again, it’s pretty much confirmed that Avengers: Endgame will be bringing a whole load of characters back from the dead, so perhaps we can’t rule out the Loki show taking place after the events of his last film. Either way, we can expect some clarification when Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
