Memphis man opens package in FedEx store, sends worker running for dear life: ‘Not funny, not cute, very immature to get clicks’

People are convinced the man did it on purpose.

A Memphis man left experienced an unexpected moment when he opened a package at a FedEx location and discovered a live 6-foot iguana inside. According to his Instagram video, Roderick Duncan received the reptile, named Titan, which had been shipped overnight to the facility. When Duncan began opening the package, the iguana quickly jumped out of the bag, prompting immediate action from both Duncan and FedEx staff present at the location.

The incident was captured on video and shared across social media platforms. In the footage, a FedEx employee can be heard asking Duncan, “What you going to do with this big thing?” Duncan responds, indicating he had plans for the iguana and noting its size. According to Duncan’s account, he had expected the iguana to be sluggish upon arrival, as is typical for reptiles after shipping. However, the animal appeared to have different plans.

Duncan later described the moment in a social media post, stating: “He was shipped overnight, and I expected him to be stiff for a minute like most reptiles after shipping. Nope. Titan came out ready for all the smoke.”

FedEx staff worked quickly to contain the loose reptile

Video footage shows Duncan and the FedEx employees attempting to capture the loose iguana inside the facility. Staff can be heard giving instructions, with Duncan saying, “Grab him by the tail.”

The efforts to contain the reptile appear to have been successful relatively quickly, with the iguana being placed back into its box. Duncan shared additional details about the incident in his social media posts following the event. He emphasized that the situation resolved without injury, noting: “Nobody was hurt, and everybody ended up laughing.”

The FedEx employees involved in the capture received particular praise from Duncan. Duncan said that the staff “handled it like champs.” FedEx employees are not the only ones praised for handling package-related incidents, as a Maryland woman captures a man allegedly stealing her delivered package on camera.

The incident gained significant attention through social media. Users expressed shock and humor about the shipping method and the chaotic scene, with many blaming Duncan for opening the package in the store in the first place and accusing that he did it all just to capture a viral moment. One user wrote, “not funny, not cute, very immature to get clicks. The employee could seriously have suffered a panic attack or even worse for this foolishness. the person should be CAUGHT & FINED for this nonsense!”

One commenter said the unusual shipping approach, writing, “That’s how they’re shipped? Wow. In a dust bag is crazy lol,” while another questioned the packing method, asking, “Now why did you just dump him out the dust bag like a new purse???”

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) expressed concern about the animal, writing, “The real jump scare? That animals are still being boxed up and sold like sneakers. Imagine how scared this iguana was. Every animal is someone. Please, always adopt, never buy animals.”

Another user expressed surprise about the shipping logistics, commenting, “Since when do they ship reptiles in a box to fedex.” Some viewers also highlighted Duncan’s calm demeanor during the incident, with one noting “its you calm asf while that poor lady falling out.” Unexpected package contents have sparked strong reactions before too, like when this man holds up a Dollar Tree fried rice bowl next to the photo on the package to reveal what’s actually inside.
