Having been caught up in the developing situation involving Agent Liberty and the emergence of Nia Nal as Dreamer, it became almost easy to overlook how the producers of Supergirl had been building toward the unification of the Elite (Manchester Black, Menagerie and the Hat). In fact, we’ll see them come together on March 3rd during the aptly titled “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?,” an obvious nod to Action Comics #775.
As it turns out, the Elite will stick around a little longer than I initially expected, as they’ll continue being a collective nuisance in “Stand and Deliver.” And no, it’s not a re-imagining of the inspirational film starring Edward James Olmos. Instead, it’ll go down like this:
SUPERGIRL TAKES A STAND — Between Ben Lockwood’s (Sam Witwer) new push to stir up the anti-alien movement and the Elite’s desire to target Lockwood and his minions, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is concerned about the safety of the American people – both human and alien. When Lockwood organizes a rally, the aliens decide to peacefully protest. Brainiac (Jesse Rath) and J’onn (David Harewood) join the alien march while Supergirl and Dreamer (Nicole Maines) patrol to keep everyone safe. Meanwhile, James (Mehcad Brooks) picks up his camera again to cover the march for CatCo, and Hayley (April Parker Jones) assigns Alex (Chyler Leigh) a job that clashes with her beliefs. When The Elite and Ben Lockwood stir up trouble at the rally, Supergirl is forced to take a stand. Jonathan Bennett guest stars. Andi Armaganian directed the episode written by Rob Wright & Jess Kardos (#414). Original airdate 3/10/2019.
Now, if that doesn’t sound like one hell of a giant powder keg waiting to explode, I don’t know what does. When you have Supergirl, CatCo, the DEO, the Children of Liberty and the Elite coming at each other from opposite sides, then you probably don’t need me to tell you things will get really ugly really fast.
If anything, this’ll serve as terrific prelude to the introduction of Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor. As you may remember, he’s supposed to enter the fold in episode 15, and I reckon the series will never be the same again.
Supergirl airs on Sunday nights on The CW, with “Stand and Deliver” set to debut on March 10th.
