No one can deny that the remake of Resident Evil 2 has gone down incredibly well with its target fanbase and the gaming community at large. Though some were initially skeptical about it, thinking that it’d deviate too far from the original, it thankfully retained the spirit and, for the most part, told the same story.

Sure, it may have some flaws, but overall, the RE 2 remake is devilishly terrifying and a real thrill to play, bringing us some pure survival horror retro-fitted for a modern audience. And it looks like many people agree with that sentiment, too, as we’re now learning that the game has shipped a whopping 4 million units worldwide since it released last month.

We should note that shipped is different than sold, but it’s still a mighty impressive figure and puts it in the same league as a number of the franchise’s biggest titles. What comes next for the beloved survival horror series, though?

Well, we’ve been hearing lots of rumors about a possible Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake and we’ve also been told that development has already gotten underway on the unannounced Resident Evil 8, which might go back to a third person perspective like the latest Resident Evil 2. That being said, none of this has been confirmed by Capcom just yet so take it with a grain of salt for now.

Still, with three classic Resident Evil games headed to the Switch in May and with new free DLC dropping for the excellent Resident Evil 2 remake, it truly is a great time to be a fan of the franchise. Not to mention that if nothing else, these new sales numbers surely mean that we’ll be getting a lot more Resident Evil goodies to feast on in the not too distant future.
