Epic Character Posters For Game Of Thrones Season 8 Tee Up The Final Battle

HBO has rolled out a series of suitably moody character posters for Game of Thrones season 8 teasing the beginning of the end.

All roads lead to this.

The eighth and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones is almost upon us, and we now have the official key art to prove it. If you’ve been paying close attention to Thrones since the chilling winds of winter began to sweep past the wall, you’ll know that each new promotional campaign typically assembles the show’s power players for a moody photoshoot. Previous incarnations have included individual close-ups kissed by ice, while HBO has also placed its biggest stars – namely Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen et. al – among the Hall of Faces.

But this time, the spotlight points toward the Iron Throne – the ultimate prize – as HBO’s fantasy flagship identifies its pretenders to the throne, including the inimitable, chicken-loving man mountain that is Sandor Clegane.

There’s even room for the show’s ultimate antagonist, the Night King. He’s essentially death incarnate, and brings with him an undead army the likes of which we’ve never seen before (he’s got a frickin’ dragon, for crying out loud!). How, exactly, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen plan to stop this threat remains unclear, but we suspect it has something to do with the remaining two dragons and… Bran Stark.

Yes, the newly-anointed Three-Eyed Raven has emerged as something of a power player in recent episodes, so we wouldn’t be too surprised if he was the one to stop the Night King in his tracks before all of the Seven Kingdoms are covered in a blanket of snow and ice.

Whatever the case, Game of Thrones season 8 begins its rollout on Sunday, April 14th. And yes, there are only six episodes that remain, though you’ll be pleased to hear that they’ve been angled as feature-length spectacles.
