Supergirl Lex Luthor

Lex Luthor Finally Arrives In New Supergirl Synopsis

Though Supergirl tells the story of Kara Zor-El first and foremost, it’s pretty much impossible to avoid certain hallmarks of the DC Universe due to her being the cousin of Superman. As such, Tyler Hoechlin has already shown up as Big Blue on several occasions, not to mention other vital characters such as James Olsen and Cat Grant putting in appearances as well.

So, naturally, one would think Lex Luthor wouldn’t be far behind, but aside from seeing him as a child during a flashback sequence, he’s been merely name-dropped around National City. Still, the likes of Lena and Lillian have filled the void in a sense, with the latter actually beating her son to the punch by being the first to don the Lexo suit in live action.

Fortunately, season 4 will soon bring us the moment we’ve long awaited, as Jon Cryer will debut as the Man of Steel’s greatest foe in “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” Here, take a look at the official synopsis in order to learn more about one of the biggest additions to the Arrowverse this year:

JON CRYER GUEST STARS AS ICONIC DC COMICS’ VILLAIN LEX LUTHOR —Secretly furloughed from prison due to failing health, Lex Luthor (guest star Jon Cryer) visits his sister, Lena (Katie McGrath), to seek her help finding a cure. Savvy as ever, Lena is suspicious of Lex’s motives but when she’s faced with a life and death situation, she must decide how she truly feels about her brother. Meanwhile, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and J’onn (David Harewood) face off against Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala). James’ sister Kelly (guest star Azie Tesfai) comes to town. Tawnia Mckiernan directed the episode written by Derek Simon & Nicki Holcomb (#415). Original airdate 3/17/2019.

If I were to hazard a guess, Lex’s ailment is the result of repeated exposure to Kryptonite, just as we’ve seen before in both comics and animation. And right now, my gut tells me Lena will attempt to cure him by giving him superpowers, which’ll probably make him quite the threat to the Maiden of Might. Hey, the producers likely had some big payoff in mind when it came to Lena’s recent experiments, right?

Since all we can really do is speculate at this point, then it may not be crazy to assume that Lex will team up with Agent Liberty before the current season wraps. After all, they share a hatred for aliens, and it’d kind of make sense from a storytelling standpoint.

Supergirl airs on Sunday nights on The CW, with “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” being set to debut on March 17th.
