The CW Cancels Arrow, Season 8 Will Be Its Last

In some rather shocking news, Stephen Amell has announced that Arrow has been cancelled and season 8 will be its last run.

When The CW renewed all of its DC-based shows for another season last month, it’s likely that many fans out there did a little happy dance. Sure, some of them have been performing better than others in the ratings department lately, but the network obviously wants to keep them all alive long enough so that the upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover can be a true spectacle.

Still, all good things must come to an end and sure enough, just as we told you the other week, The CW has now cancelled Arrow. An exact reason for the cancelation hasn’t been provided, but executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Beth Schwartz have released the following statement:

“This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of Arrow in mind.

“We’re heartened by the fact that Arrow has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come. We’re excited about crafting a conclusion that honors the show, its characters and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and — more importantly — the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years.”

Aside from the fact that we already told you this was coming, it’s not terribly surprising to hear that it’s now official. After all, Arrow‘s been around for a while and it was just a matter of time really before star Stephen Amell had to move on with his career.

Not only that, but Oliver Queen’s already leading the pool regarding which major character will meet their maker in “Crisis.” And if he does indeed end up dying, it’s unlikely many viewers would stick around for an Arrow-less Arrow.

Still, none of that makes this news any easier to swallow. It’s been a long, thrilling and always interesting journey for the show, and The CW’s Arrowverse is definitely going to be a drastically different place once Arrow takes its final bow in season 8 – which will consist of only 10 episodes.
