Miami woman’s mom and sister refused to come to her wedding. Then her millionaire aunt calls and says ‘i just have to check the flight prices’

Miami bride details fallout before her Spain wedding.

A Miami woman named Sophia says her wedding plans have caused a rift in her family after her mother and sister decided not to attend. She later said her aunt also chose not to come, following a phone call the woman described in a video posted to TikTok.

The video has since gained renewed attention online, drawing over 1.9 million views. She wrote in the caption, “At this point I have to laugh because what the actual hell. LOLL. #weddingtok #bridetok #2026bride #bridestory”

In the video, Sophia explained she was “minding my business” when her aunt called her. She said she picked up the call because she loves her aunt, even though she expected the conversation to involve family drama.

Aunt brought up flight prices during the call

Sophia recalled that the call started off well, with her aunt asking how she was feeling. She added that this did not last long, as her aunt soon began talking about how her sister and mother were reacting to the wedding. “Your sister’s distraught, your mom is distraught,” Sophia recalled her aunt saying.

Sophia mentioned she was confused by this, since she had not yet made a final decision about the wedding. According to Sophia, her aunt then told her, “Sophia, you know, I know that you’ve chosen to live like this independent life, and that has its pluses and all, but you’re choosing a very lonely life and you’re gonna be sad and you’re gonna have a sad wedding.” She said, her aunt then asked if she would really be happy at her wedding without her mother, sister, or aunt there.

Sophia said she responded by asking her aunt why she was including herself in the situation. Sophia stated she responded by asking her aunt why she was including herself in the situation. Her aunt reportedly replied, “I just have to check the flight prices, and you know, it’s just really hot in Spain in the summer, and I just really don’t like it.”

Sophia explained she found this reasoning questionable because her aunt is a multi-millionaire. She believed her aunt called to use the situation with her mother and sister as a reason to also back out of attending. Sophia described laughing and hanging up the phone, adding in the video that the story was not exaggerated or made up for entertainment: “This is my life.”

In a follow-up TikTok video posted weeks later, Sophia provided an update on whether she would change her wedding date. She revealed she had been away from social media because of stress, but after “a lot of like conversations and trying to figure out different ways that we can make it work,” she and her partner decided not to move the wedding. She confirmed the wedding would take place in the summer of 2026.

Sophia clarified that the decision meant accepting that her mother and sister likely would not attend. She described it as a difficult choice that she had spent time crying about, but noted she did not want to wait until 2027 to get married. Family conflict can escalate dramatically around weddings, like when a bride uninvites her sister-in-law but she shows up to the rehearsal anyway.

She expressed hope that once she made her decision, her family would respect it and support her during wedding planning, including her bachelorette party and bridal shower. She acknowledged that support had not happened.

She added that she hoped the new year would bring a change and that she could focus on wedding preparations, including skincare plans such as monthly facials and microneedling. She also asked Miami-area followers for recommendations for estheticians, dermatologists, gyms, and Pilates studios. Family drama can overshadow wedding plans, as when a bride demands her sister prove she had no relationship with a former coworker

The video’s comment section included a range of reactions from viewers. One comment read, “On the bright side, your wedding is getting cheaper by the day 😅” Another comment offered support, stating, “Sophia, with LOVE! I’m going to hold your hand when I say this! Please pay attention to how they’re treating your rn. This is absolutely a reflection of their character!”

Other viewers shared similar sentiments. One comment read, “Weddings unfortunately bring out people’s true colors… I’m sorry they aren’t in your corner :(” Another comment stated, “Emotional blackmail. Have your wedding. They can make their own choices.” A shorter comment simply read, “Don’t change the date!”

According to Sophia’s TikTok account, the wedding took place in Spain on July 17, 2026.
