Though it’s taking a surprising amount of time for The Conjuring 3 to make its way to cinemas, DiscussingFilm has just broken the news that we’re less than three months away from seeing the movie finally go into production. As per their recent announcement, filming on the third installment in this universe-spawning series is scheduled to kick off in Atlanta on June 3rd, which happens to be just a few weeks before before the third Annabelle movie comes out.

It’s a little strange to think that the demonic doll’s Conjuring spinoff series has landed a third installment before the property it spun off from, though interestingly, Annabelle 3 looks set to have even more overlap than usual with the Conjuring films. To elaborate, Gary Dauberman’s feature will see the return of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, respectively, though the main focus of the movie is likely to be their daughter Judy, played this time by Mckenna Grace.

Anyway, once Annabelle 3 is out of the way, The Conjuring 3 is next on the franchise’s release schedule, and will apparently see Ed and Lorraine look into the case of a man on trial for murder who’s using demonic possession as his legal defense. Producer James Wan has said that the story, like the two Conjuring films before it, is based on one of the Warrens’ case files.

Speaking of Wan, since the Aquaman helmsman won’t be on directing duties this time, the torch now passes to Michael Chaves, who previously impressed Wan with his work on the upcoming horror flick The Curse of La Llorona. We’ll find out how Chaves stacks up against his predecessor when The Conjuring 3 hits theaters on September 11th, 2020.
