The latest is Thor: Ragnarok‘s Taika Waititi, who had the perfect response to Gunn re-entering the MCU. Before I go any further though, let’s see what the man Marvel lovers know as Korg had to say:

The New Zealand director is referencing the fact that he was pretty much the internet’s favorite choice to replace Gunn on Guardians 3, likely due to how he’s already helped shape a cosmic comedy for Marvel in the past. Obviously, Waititi’s just joking here though, as he’s previously made it clear that he wouldn’t want to step on Gunn’s toes and move in on his franchise.

The director’s future with Marvel has yet to be defined, though they’d be mad if they didn’t get him back on board after Ragnarok was such a roaring success. At least he’s directed an episode of Jon Favreau’s highly anticipated Star Wars live-action series The Mandalorian, which is coming to Disney Plus later this year.

As for Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 isn’t the only superhero film he’s got in the works. Despite making amends with Marvel, he’s still signed up to helm The Suicide Squad for DC. The thinking is that he’s going to be busy with that for the next couple of years or so and then he’ll set about completing the Guardians trilogy he began back in 2014.

Tell us, are you glad James Gunn is back with Marvel, or would you have liked to have seen Taika Waititi’s take on the Guardians franchise? Lay out your feelings in the comments section down below.
