As the culmination point for over a decade’s worth of superhero cinema, it probably doesn’t need to be said that Avengers: Endgame will be going big with its storyline, but in a newly published interview with Empire, the team stressed the sheer scale of the narrative once more.
In the publication’s recent cover story, Endgame co-director Anthony Russo teased that the film will have an “epic narrative,” before co-writer Stephen McFeely backed up his claim:
“It’s just the most. It’s just the biggest.”
Indeed, Marvel fans are expecting nothing less, and if recent comments from Anthony and Joe Russo are anything to go by, then the Avengers: Infinity War sequel will likely have a runtime to match its scale.
In an interview last month with Collider, the Russo Brothers claimed that Endgame “feels like three hours’ worth of real estate,” after mentioning that the current cut of the movie was playing well with test audiences. Just over a month later, the pair took to Twitter to announce that the final edit of the film is now “locked,” and while they’ve yet to divulge the official runtime, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige at least seems open to releasing the feature at three hours.
That being said, the producer also argued a couple of weeks ago in an interview with Collider that the actual length of a movie is less important than how long it feels. He’s probably right, though the film’s trailers have offered only the vaguest impression of the sort of adventure we’re in for. Regardless, you can judge for yourself if the story of Avengers: Endgame is as epic as Anthony Russo says it is when the film hits theaters on April 26th.
