Oscar Isaac Addresses Those Batman Casting Rumors

With Ben Affleck's time in the cape and cowl now a memory, Warner Bros are on the hunt for a new Batman. Over the last few weeks we've heard a couple of promising names for Matt Reeves' The Batman (I think Robert Pattinson would actually be a great choice), but there's one name that's always seemed kinda plausible: Oscar Isaac. Having proved his mettle as a dramatic actor many times over (and cementing his heroic leading man status in the Star Wars sequel trilogy), he's emerged as a front-runner.

With Ben Affleck’s time in the cape and cowl now a memory, Warner Bros. are on the hunt for a new Dark Knight. Over the last few weeks, we’ve heard a couple of promising names for Matt Reeves’ The Batman (I think Robert Pattinson would actually be a great choice), but there’s one name that’s always seemed kinda plausible: Oscar Isaac.

Having proved his mettle as a dramatic actor many times over (and cementing his heroic leading man status in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy), he’s emerged as a real frontrunner. Perhaps the only thing truly working against him though is his age.

Warner Bros. have been widely reported to be searching for a younger actor to play the role, with the character in Reeves’ film having been rewritten to be in his late 20s. Isaac is 40, which is perhaps a little too close to Affleck’s 46 for comfort. Still, he’s a popular prediction. But is there any chance of this actually coming to pass?

Metro News asked him directly whether these rumors were true in a recent interview and here’s what he said:

“No. I have only read it online like everyone else. I haven’t had any conversations about Batman, unfortunately, but I am sure it is going to be great. Matt Reeves is such a great director. Yeah, he can get my number.”

So, sadly it looks like it’s not going to happen. However, we should have confirmation of who’s going to be our new Batman sooner rather than later. Warner Bros. is hoping to release the movie on June 25th, 2021, and given that pre-production has probably already begun on the film, we should see shooting begin in late 2019.

If that does prove to be the case, expect WB to announce the casting sometime over the summer. Until then, tell us, do you think Isaacs would have been a good fit, and have you got any other suggestions for who should be the new Batman? As always, let us know in the comments section down below.
