Avengers: Endgame Producer Says The Entire Movie’s A Spoiler

We’re now only three weeks away from the release of Avengers: Endgame, and as it stands, Marvel Studios has confirmed next to nothing about the plot of the film. And while various leaks, promo art, interview quotes and footage has helped give us some idea of the adventure that awaits, the production house has really gone the extra mile this time to keep most of the biggest reveals under wraps.

To some extent, this is nothing new for the MCU. In a recent interview with Total Film, for instance, executive producer Trinh Tran recalled how they took extreme measures to cover up the genocidal finale of Avengers: Infinity War:

“It was especially difficult towards the end, too, because the big spoiler at the end of Infinity War was that half of our favourite characters died. So those pages actually didn’t exist at all. We didn’t publish those or give those out. So not even the cast had those. We had to verbally tell the folks that they were dying, in person.”

But while it’s one thing to avoid giving away the ending of a film, Tran went on to claim that this month’s sequel was practically spoilers all the way through.

Endgame was especially hard in that sense because we felt that pretty much the entire movie was a spoiler.”

Seeing how Endgame bases its events around the snap that concluded the Russo Brothers’ last movie, Tran’s statement would’ve been especially true before the release of Infinity War. That being said, almost a year later, Marvel remains stingy with the details. Even the film’s trailers have given very little of the story away, and according to co-director Joe Russo, there’s good reason for this.

“We’re being very selective with the material that’s going into the trailers. There are a lot of people out there that want to be surprised, and we want there to be room for surprises. We just want to make sure they can’t predict anything that might happen. Anything that gives anyone context or, you know, spoils the movie is any way, we’re going to keep it under a lock.”

Even the few details that can be gleaned from the film’s promotional footage may well turn out to be misleading, given Marvel’s habit of using altered footage in their trailers. Nonetheless, it’s not long now before all is revealed when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
