Arrow is set to come to a close this fall with its reduced 10-episode eighth season. Of course, the Arrowverse will continue in the form of The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and the upcoming Batwoman TV series, but fans still aren’t ready to see Team Arrow go and are hoping that a new spinoff from the Emerald Archer’s world will appear.

In particular, they’ve latched onto the idea of building a whole series around Katherine McNamara’s Blackstar, the daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak introduced in the flash-forwards that have fitted into season 7. The episode “Star City 2040” was totally dedicated to this dark future and came across as something of a backdoor pilot for a Blackstar show.

But was this the intention? TVLine asked showrunner Beth Schwartz whether the episode was made to tease a spinoff and, intriguingly, she didn’t rule it out.

“It was definitely meant to grow the world that we had already built and to see the next generation of what Oliver and Felicity and our present-day team have worked so hard for, and sort of see what happens in the future.”

As for whether it’s something the Arrow team would want to see, Schwartz confirmed that they hope the characters survive the show’s cancellation. Whether that be in a new spinoff or just in crossovers with the other Arrowverse series.

“We love those characters and would love to see them go on in some capacity after the show’s over. We were so happy, internally, about how it came out,” she added. “We kinda love our future story.”

So, it sounds like it’s still a bit unclear if there’ll be a future for some of the Arrow cast members, but it sounds like many of them are bowing out of the franchise with the end of the show. Emily Bett Rickards has already announced she’s leaving in season 7, with our sources also telling us that David Ramsey and Katie Cassidy Rodgers are planning to say goodbye to their characters, too.

Arrow season 7 continues with new episodes on The CW next Monday, but tell us, do you want to see a Blackstar spinoff at some point down the road? Have your say in the comments section down below.
