Avengers: Endgame Directors Shot Five Different Endings

We know that Marvel have been doing all they can to protect the plot of Avengers: Endgame. For one, they repeated the trick from Avengers: Infinity War of not giving the cast full scripts. Aside from that, though, a comment from one of the stars suggests that they also went so far as filming various fake endings to the movie to further throw folks off the scent.

While speaking to E! News alongside fellow Avengers Chris Evans and Karen Gillan, Mark Ruffalo – the king of leaking Marvel’s secrets – revealed that he filmed five separate ending scenes for Endgame. And the actor seemed to suggest that one of them features Captain America getting married.

“I shot, like, five different endings to this movie. I didn’t even get a whole script of this movie. I don’t know why. The script I did get had dummy scenes in it. He [pointing to Chris Evans] gets married in this!”

It’s unclear if shooting multiple endings was a practice used to keep everyone guessing about the film’s true climax, or just Ruffalo himself. We’re also not sure if he’s just joking about that Cap wedding comment. Given that the last time we thought he was kidding about a spoiler – when he commented that “everyone dies!” in Infinity War a year before its release – he turned out to be bang on the money, it’s hard to say.

It’s worth pointing out, though, that one fan theory suggests Cap will get a happy ending in Endgame by traveling back to the 1940s and reuniting with his first love Peggy Carter. Time travel is basically confirmed to be a major part of the storyline at this point and it would be hilarious if, after going to extreme lengths to keep the characters’ fates under wraps, Ruffalo blabbed about Cap’s ending like this.

In any case, there’s not too long to go now until we get to find out the truth, as Avengers: Endgame lands in theaters on April 26th.
